The Hokuyo UTM-30LX-EW scanning laser rangefinder is a small, accurate, high-speed device for outdoor robotic applications.

uses Ethernet interface for communication

can obtain measurement data in a wider field of view up to a distance of 30 meters with millimeter resolution.

This device uses multi-echo technology for detection.

allows for receiving multiple reflected waves per transmitted laser pulse in order to obtain usable measurement data.

A very reliable object detection and 2-D mapping of the environment in all weather conditions.

  • Multi-echo detection for outdoor use
  • IP67 protection
  • Power Source - 12VDC  (+/-10%)
  • Scanning Range - 0.1 to 30 meters

Hokuyo UTM-30LX Usage

Hokuyou UTM-30LX a scanning laserrange finder from Hokuyo is used for modbile robot obstacle detection by scanning the area till the range of 30 meters.  It has a 270 degrees of scanning range and is suitable for fast moving robots.  This laser scanner can be used for outdoor environments.

Here you can find extensive details about the API and command line tools and commands to interface and communicate with UTM-30LX.

National Instruments have provided a plug and play driver which can be downloaded from here.

Researchers working with VTK (visualization toolkit) can directly acquire data in VTK format a wraper for Hokuyo interface can be downloaded from here.

Hokuyo has lanched a newer version of this laser scanner.  Following are the main differences:

  • Price (UTM-30LX-EW is for USD $6382.50 and UTM-30LX is for USD $5667.20).  The price may slightly vary due to exchange rates.
  • Eternet (Hokuyo UTM-30LX-EW) instead USB (Hokuyo UTM-30LX)
  • Multi-echo functionality which works great for outdoor atmopshers

There are many vendors which offer this device we offer the lowes price.  We also have a price match policy if you find a price lower than ours.  Let us know and we can instantly send you a quote.  We also have quanity discounts so call us or e-mail us and let us know about your requirements.
